Lessons For Life (Part Two)

It's About Time

I Am Learning To Read

The Earth-wide Alphabet

Holding Me Tight

(1) Lessons For Life (Part One)

This is the time - no better time - we should be learning lessons for life

Crossing the road like we've been shown - this is a basic lesson for life

First find a safe place to cross and then STOP

Stand on the path near the kerb but DON'T WALK

LOOK all around for traffic and LISTEN

(Sometimes you hear it before you can see it)

If traffic's coming just LET IT PASS

WHEN THERE'S NO TRAFFIC NEAR then at last

Walk STRAIGHT across the road but DON'T RUN

(and KEEP looking and listening)

(Repeat from top chorus twice and end)

(2) Mumbling

Well no listen and hear and come and sit over here

while I sit and I tell you a story

It's about a wee boy who never found any joy

Because he mumbled and he mumbled all day.

When he got up in the morning - well, apart from all his yawning

when he spoke he never opened his mouth.

When she couldn't understand him - 'Do you want it? - Don't you want it?'

Then his momma threw his breakfast away

(Chorus A)

He was a mumbling, a mumbling, a mumbling, a mumbling,

a mumbling, a mumbling away.

He was a mumbling, a mumbling, a mumbling, a mumbling.

He mumbled and he mumbled all day.

So he went along to school and then according to the rule

he got a bad report when teacher asked questions

She couldn't understand a word - although she tried, she never heard

Because he mumbled and he mumbled all day. . . (chorus)

Then the time came at least - he made a break from the past

and he talked to his friends who spoke clearly

"Tell me how can I talk away so people wont walk away?

Please wont you teach me to speak" . .(chorus)

'Well, the first thing to do - and this will really help you -

It's so easy, you've only to try it.

You just open your mouth boy and speak with a loud voice

Then we'll hear every word that you say

When you open your mouth, well, the words just come out

and then everyone hears you speak clearly.

Along with vowels it makes sense to let them hear the consonants

Yes good diction always will pay.

Chorus B

A ee i o and a uuuuuu (4)

So he did what they told him now his teacher wont scold him

And his momma is so proud today.

And it really does please him that his friends never tease him

'cause they hear every word that he says

No more mumbling . . . (chorus A and B together)

(3) Listen

Listen, listen, if you want joy - listen to the story of what happened to the boy

Because he played with matches now he's burned all his toys

and all because the boy wouldn't ...

Listen, listen, listen to the rule - listen to the story of what happened in the school

The girl was always talking so she ended up a fool

And all because the girl wouldn't ...

Listen, listen, this advise is sound - listen to what happened outside the playground

She was talking to a stranger now she's nowhere to be found

And all because the girl wouldn't ...

Listen, listen, pay attention too, listen to this story it could happen to you

You could lose your happiness and your life too

And all because you wouldn't listen so listen. Listen

(Repeat from top)

(4) That's Fractions

Today we went to granny's house she made such a fuss

She laid a cake upon the table for the TWO of us

She got her kitchen knife and cut the cake up into TWO

and she gave a HALF to me and then she gave a HALF to you

(Chorus)

Well, that's fractions (Yeah Yeah Yeah)

That's fractions (Yeah Yeah Yeah)

That's fractions - EQUAL PIECES OF A WHOLE!

Today we went to granny's house she made such a fuss

She laid a cake upon the table for the THREE of us

She got her kitchen knife and cut the cake up into THREE

There's a THIRD for you, a THIRD for you, and then a third for me .. (chorus)

Today we went to granny's house she made such a fuss

She laid a cake upon the table for the FOUR of us

She got her kitchen knife and cut the cake up into FOUR

There's a QUARTER for me and you and you and you and then no more .. (chorus)

Today we went to granny's house she made such a fuss

She laid a cake upon the table for the TEN of us

She got her kitchen knife and cut the cake up into TEN

There's a Tenth for me

and you and you and you and you

and you and you and you and you

and you and that's the end .. (chorus Repeat and fade)

(5) There's No Need To Make The Earth Filthy

(Chorus)

Ture-a-lure-lie ure-a-lie ure-a-lie-ay

There's no need to make the earth filthy

Although we can't clean the world by the end of the day -

At least we wont have to feel guilty.

Y'know some people still find it hard to accept

that some chemicals damage the Ozone

Well they may have to shortly when there is none left

and we have to rename it the 'NO-Zone" ...(chorus)

I was always impressed by the man everyday -

His car was so clean on the inside

But I saw where his rubbish goes and sad to say -

He empties it out on the roadside! ...(chorus)

When you think about all of the energy lost

Just to feed every Tom Dick or Michael

All those bottles and cans and the factory exhaust

You can see it makes sense to recycle ...(chorus)

Now this is a lesson for young and for old

It's important we all do our own bit

This earth is so precious - it's more rare than gold

In fact there is only one of it ...(chorus and end)

(6) The Play-Wise Safety Code

(This song puts music to the "Play-wise Safety Code" as issued by the Royal Society For Prevention of Accidents ROSPA)

Playgrounds can be fun but you can fall and hurt yourself so

When you skip and run - use the play-wise safety code

(Chorus - the code)

Spot the dangers, Know the difference

Check new places, take advice

Go with a grown-up - learn how to help

Before you play just think twice.

First look out for things that might lead you to danger then

to enjoy your swings use the play-wise safety code.

...(chorus)

If it's a new playground - look around and check it out

There may be rules to be found - the play-wise safety code

If you just think twice you may see signs that tell you things

Take safety advice - use the play-wise safety code.

...(chorus)

You may not get up if you fall down while on your own so

Go with a grown-up use the play-wise safety code.

If your friend has a bad fall, try to help and comfort him

Learn how to help - yes that's all the play-wise safety code.

...(chorus)

(7) Lessons For Life (Part Two)

This is the time - no better time - we should be learning lessons for life

Stay free from vice is good advice - this is a basic lesson for life

Learn to say no to drinking and drugs

Addictive smoking is only for mugs

Learn to say no and live for a long time.

What kind of 'friend' would teach you to lie?

To steal from your mother making her cry?

What kind of 'friend' would want you to die

or live a life of misery?

(repeat from top, chorus twice and end)

(8) It's About Time

(Extra Vocals by Veronica Hayward)

This is a fun song and it's the only one song that tells you all about the time

So just sit back and listen or words you will be missing - then the verse wont rhyme

How many seconds are there in a minute? How many minutes in an hour?

How many hours would you say are making up a full day?

Listen and I'll tell you right now.

(Chorus A)

There a sixty seconds in a minute

There as sixty minutes in an hour

There are twenty four hours making up a full day

Seconds minutes and hours you have learned today.

________________

This is a fun song and it's the only one song that tells you all about the week

The knowledge we now bring you we much prefer to sing you

'cause it's more fun to sing than speak

How many days in a week? - Seven

How many days in a week? - Seven

How many days in a week? - Seven

There are seven days in a week.

Let's count 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, yes I'm sure you know the way

Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday

(repeat chorus A and chorus B in counterpoint)

(9) I Am Learning To Read

Soon I'll how they make a car. Soon I'll know how they count the stars

I'll know if Burma is near or far - 'cause I am learning to read.

Soon I'll take a good book to bed and paint the pictures inside my head

Not just comic books, 'cause instead, I am learning to read.

(Chorus)

A B C the library's free with all that knowledge for you and me

Sun and light, the whole world is bright

now I'm learning to read and write.

Soon I'll know how to make a cake - buns and biscuits and choc'late flakes

Yes I hope to make less mistakes 'cause I am learning to read

If my home address I can't find - I'll get home again right on time

Just by reading the maps and signs - yes I am learning to read ..(chorus)

If there's anything you should know, you can learn it from books just so.

You can even learn how to grow just by learning to read

(instrumental - chorus - repeat 1st and last verses - chorus)

Lets start learning to read.

(11) Holding Me Tight

Last night Mum was telling me stories of when she was young in her glory

and how granny always would call her 'young Miss'

As a child she always would run first rather than walking - then get hurt

But Granddad and Granny gave comfort - healing her wounds with a kiss

And at the times she'd cry waking afraid in the night

They took away her fright

With all their love they were holding her tight.

As she grew she learned how to worry and leaving her childhood felt sorry

She couldn't be free because now she had grown

'Though at times, she said, she felt friendless

Just when she thought life was senseless, she wasn't left on her own

And at the times she'd hide 'cause she felt so empty inside

They shone a light to guide

With all their love they were holding her tight.

Hearing this only reminds me of my love for Mummy and Daddy

And all of the things that they have done for me

Thank you Mum and Dad for the safe nights

Thank you both for giving me life

Thank you for making it so bright

Thank you for giving love free.

And at the times I cry waking afraid in the night

You take away my fright with all your love holding me tight

And at the times I hide 'cause I feel so empty inside

You shine a light to guide

With all your love you are holding me tight.
